CROSS LAKE and CARIBOU Hubert D. Richards, 74, husband of Georgine (Cassidy) Richards, died un-expectedly, May 23, 2004 at his home on Cross Lake. He was born at Caribou, May 6, 1930, the son of Oscar Ray and Maddie (Davenport) Richards. Hubert was a graduate of the Caribou high school and served with the U.S. Air Force in North Africa, Puerto Rico, Texas, and at Loring Air Force Base. Hubert was employed by the B & A Railroad for several years and at Aroostook Office Supply for many years. He then owned and operated H.D. Richards and Son Office Supply in Caribou for 18 years. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and also attended Mass in Sinclair and Fort Kent. Hubert was an active member of the Caribou Lion’s Club where he served as King Lion. He was a member of the Henry B. Pratt Post No. 15 American Legion and was a member of the Caribou Chamber of Commerce during his business years. Hubert was known as the “Mayor” of the Matrimony Point Association, which he was very active and served as president and a board member and was head of the road committee. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt and especially loved to canoe the Allagash River. Hubert also loved to hear others play the fiddle and was a friend to many and all he met. Hubert loved all people, old friends and people he had just met. He especially loved his family; his wife, children, grand children, great granddaughter and his siblings and their families. He enjoyed cooking incredible meals for everyone who visited his camp. His love of life is what those who loved and knew Hubert will remember and one of the things that will be missed the most. He married Georgine Catherine (Cassidy) Richards on Oct. 13, 1951. Surviving, in addition to his wife of Cross Lake, are five sons, Stephen Richards and special friend, Susan Weston, Timothy and Lorelei Richards, Christopher Richards and special friend, Sandra Cyr, Daniel Richards and Dennis and Paula Richards, all of Caribou; one daughter, Cathie Richards and James Soucier of Caribou; three brothers, Ray and Marjorie Richards of Delaware, Sterling and Delores Richards of Caribou and Gary and Mary Etta Richards of Presque Isle; three sisters, Val and Walter Constatine of Bangor, Roberta Shaw of Pleasantville, N.C. and Beverly and David Stadler of Reno, Nev.; three grandchildren, Jillian Adams and Matthew and Allison Richards; one great-granddaughter, Molly Adams, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, David Richards and a brother, Curtis Richards. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004 from the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, with the Fr. Clement Thibodeau, officiating in a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will take place in the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish to contribute in memory of Hubert may do so through the Ronald McDonald House, 654 State St., Bangor, ME 04401-5649. Envelopes may also be obtained through the funeral home.
