CORINNA – Hubert L. Flanders, 85, died Nov. 9, 2005, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor. He was born Dec. 5, 1919, in Corinna, a son of Maurice and Hazel (Sawtelle) Flanders. He graduated from Corinna Union Academy, Class of 1938, and served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. during World War II. Hubert and his wife, Marie, were married June 29, 1946. He worked in area woolen mills and retired as a maintenance foreman in 1981. He was a member of the Corinna Post No. 73 American Legion and a past master of Parian Lodge Masons of Corinna. He served in the Corinna Fire Department for many years and was fire chief for 25 years. He attended the Corinna United Methodist Church. Hubert enjoyed hunting and fishing; he loved the woods and was a loyal friend to mother nature. In addition to his wife of 59 years, Hubert is survived by a son Dana and wife, Valarie Flanders, of Plymouth; three daughters, Susan and husband, Eddie York, of Clinton, Sally Wintle of Dexter and Amy and husband, Gary Fitch, of Jay; seven grandchildren, Kevin York, Sarah and Ben Wintle, Amanda and Beth Flanders, Dustin Hargreaves and Kayla Fitch. Hubert was predeceased by a sister, Teresa Bowen; a brother, Earl, and a granddaughter, Emilie York. At his request there will be no viewing. A graveside funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Morses Corner Cemetery, Corinna, with the Rev. Sharon Lovejoy and the American Legion Honor Guard, officiating.
