BANGOR and LINCOLN – Hugh Edward “Cy” Flynn, 68, died peacefully July 15, 2006, while surrounded by the people he loved. Hugh spent many happy years with the love of his life, Jan Chandler, who stood by his side during his illness at their home in Lincoln. Throughout his illness, Hugh maintained the humor he was best known for, as well as his love for life. Papa’s greatest passion in life was his family and he greatly treasured time spent with them, especially at his camp on Ebeemee Lake. Hugh was born Dec. 30, 1937, in Bangor, the son, of Eugene and Agnes (Tracy) Flynn. Hugh was a graduate of John Bapst High School, Class of 1955 and St. Anselm College, Class of 1959. He was employed as safety director of Eastern Fine Paper for a number of years before moving to the insurance industry and working for Dunlap-HRH. Hugh later was self-employed as a safety and loss control consultant for various private businesses throughout the state. Hugh was very well known in the industry as an expert in OSHA regulations. His expertise was called on by insurance companies, as well as government agencies. Hugh was involved in various community and civic organizations. Surviving are his wife, Barbara (Damien) Flynn of Falmouth; two sons, Kevin Flynn and his wife, Wendy, of Brunswick; Michael Flynn and his wife, Marilyn, of Bangor; Jan Chandler of Lincoln, her daughter, Jennifer Chandler, son, Trent Chandler and his wife, Heather; and five grandchildren, Robert, Kevin, Daniel, Sean and Erin. Services will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Roland Nadeau, chaplain of St. Joseph’s Hospital, officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6 p.m. until time of service Thursday. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith, Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the service.
