IRENE F. TUTTLE WINTERPORT – Irene Frances (Goody) Tuttle, 94, wife of Ernest H. Tuttle, passed away Jan. 9, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. She was born in Randolph, Mass., Nov. 6, 1909, the daughter of George E. Goody Sr. and Abbie (Harris) Goody. Irene was educated in Randolph schools and was a graduate of Bridgewater State Teachers College. She had taught school in Randolph, in a one-room schoolhouse in Hermon, and for the Hampden and Winterport school systems. She was the secretary for superintendent Bernard Pierce in the Winterport school system for 10 years. She was a former Winterport school board member, former member of the Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church, she was dedicated to delivering Meals for ME for many years and had taught bible studies at BMHI and area group homes. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a teacher’s sorority. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Ernest of Winterport; a son, Stephen L. Tuttle and his wife, Nancy, of Lansdowne Pa.; three daughters, Meredith I. Clements and her husband, Timothy, of Winterport, Jeanne H. Foster and her husband, Michael, of Columbus, Ohio, and Kathryn R. Peterson and her husband, Gary, of Minot; a sister, Hazel M. Kerr of North Easton, Mass.; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Ralph M. Tuttle; and one brother; and three sisters. A celebration of Irene’s life will be held 6 p.m. Monday at the Church of the Open Door (Main Rd. North, Hampden) with the Rev. Mark Fowler, pastor, officiating. Interment in the springtime will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden. Contributions in Irene’s memory may be made to Meals for ME, 450 Essex St., Bangor 04401, Attn. Gail Ward.
