CHINA – Irving R. Hiltz, 81, of China, died Monday Dec. 15, 2003, in Augusta. He was born March 17, 1922, in Boston Mass., a son of Henry and Alice (Sisson) Hiltz. Irving was a World War II veteran, 50 year mason member, trustee of the China Baptist Church, past commander of the American Legion, assistant scoutmaster and was instrumental in the organization of the Little League field and local scout troop 479 in China. The town of China honored him in 2002 for serving longer than anyone on the recreation committee. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy O. (Ekblom) Hiltz of China; two sons, Ralph Hiltz and wife, Terry, Wayne Hiltz and wife, Terry; one daughter, Janet Kochis and husband, Alan; three sisters, Flora Hewitt, Alice Louise Crawley, and Eleanor Dow; several grandchildren, Michelle Hiltz, Jonathan Hiltz, Ryan Hiltz, Jaime Hiltz, Jeremy Kochis, Joshua Kochis and Aaron Hiltz. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and a special surrogate son, James McGrath. A celebration of his life will take place 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at the China Baptist church with Dr. Robert Dow and the Rev. Ronald Morrell officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Chadwick Hill Cemetery in South China. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, Gray Chapel, Windsor Neck Road in Windsor.
