GOULDSBORO – Ivory B. “Toots” Parritt Jr., 91, died Feb. 16, 2005, at the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth, after a short illness. He was born March 7, 1913, in Somerville, Mass., the son of the late Ivory B. Sr. and Helen (Donnall) Parritt. Toots graduated from Steuben High School, and served in the U.S. Army in England during World War II. He was a past master and 50-year member of Pleiades Lodge of Masons, Milbridge, and a former member of the Anah Temple Shrine. Toots and his wife, Hilda owned and operated the Parritt Oil Company for decades, serving customers in Milbridge, Steuben, Gouldsboro, Winter Harbor and surrounding areas. After “retirement” he lobster fished in Gouldsboro Bay with his granddaughters until the age of 80. Toots is survived by his daughter, Janet P. and husband, Dale E. Woodward, of Gouldsboro; sisters-in-law, Myra Parritt of Steuben, Florence Chipman and Eleanor Miller of Milbridge; a brother-in-law, Harvey Beal and wife, Beverly, of Milbridge; three granddaughters, Karen and husband, Robert Massey, of Cambridge, Mass., Alison and husband, Alton Wallace, of Milbridge, and Alicia and husband, Jamie Watson, of Gouldsboro; great-granddaughters, Beth Mae and Ceanna Jo Wallace, of Milbridge; several cousins, nephews, and nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and their families. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Hilda; and a brother, Leslie. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Evergreen Cemetery on Route One in Milbridge.
