BREWER – Jacob J. “Jack” Friedman, 83, died Friday, July 21, 2005, at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. He was born May 30, 1922, in Bangor, the son of the late Myer Friedman and Minnie (Markle) Friedman. Jack graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1940. Over the course of his working life, he was employed by Penobscot Shoe Company, Penobscot Chemical Fibre Company, Diamond International Company, Friedman Furniture Company and he retired from the James River Company in 1987. After his retirement he enjoyed the weather in Naples, Fla. for many winters. He also enjoyed dancing at the Eagles Club and socializing with the Old Town Senior Citizens. He loved “his Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots” and never missed a game on television. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his wife of 62 years, Bernice “Bunny” (Guay) Friedman; three children, Joseph Friedman of Veazie, Michael and his wife, Crystal, of Bangor, and Debra Otis and her husband, Jay, of Veazie; five grandchildren, Heather, Garrett, Todd, Lindsay and Andrew; brother, Albert and his wife, Jan, of San Diego, Calif.; and a special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gus and Beverly Madden, of Zephyrhills, Fla. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Willie; and sister, Dorothy. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2005, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson, Chaplain of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the services on Monday at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
