Jacqueline Gray Dow, 78, passed away June 6, 2006, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Portsmouth, N.H., after a period of failing health. Jacquie was born May 16, 1928, in Gouldsboro, the daughter of Leslie Sr. and Susan (Macgregor) Gray and the sister of Leslie B. Gray Jr. She graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1946 and married Hollis Grindle. She was a telephone operator in Augusta and Bar Harbor. She was a member of St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church in Bar Harbor and sang in the choir. She married Elmer “Mike” S. Dow Jr. in 1952 and they raised their family in Deer Isle, where she was active in the community as a Scout leader and swimming instructor. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star in Deer Isle for more than 50 years and a past worthy matron. She was a telephone operator in Ellsworth, for many years when she lived in Deer Isle. Her husband, Mike, died in 1968. A few years later she married James Lundin, DDS, who deceased her and she was his dental receptionist at his practice in Stonington. She moved to Kittery in 1986, to be near her daughter, Lisa Dow. She was the cashier and receptionist at Bournival car dealership in Portsmouth, N.H., until her retirement in 1998. She was an active member at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth and enjoyed singing in the choir when her health permitted. Jacquie loved animals, especially her cats and had many interests, which included knitting, needlework, sewing, cooking, gardening and singing. She loved to dance and particularly enjoyed square dancing. She is survived by her loving children, Lisa Dow of Kittery and Hollis “Hoddie” Grindle Dow of Otis; a grandson, Hollis Grindle Dow Jr.; a great-grandson, Gavin Dow; a sister-in-law, Bea Gray of Bar Harbor; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her children, Lee, Jack and Heather Dow. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. June 24, at the Congregational Church in Deer Isle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to your local SPCA or the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, Kittery.
