DEXTER – Jacquelyn Mary (Hall) Tempesta McKenney, 71, died May 11, 2006, at her home in Dexter. She was born June 6, 1934, in Garland, the daughter of Charlie and Leona (Peavey) Hall. After graduating from high school, Jackie worked for a summer at her grandfather’s canning factory. That fall she entered Mount Ida Junior College with a divided major in commercial course/flight attendant with a minor in horseback riding. Averaging three hours a day riding, she still managed to stay on the Dean’s List. In 1954, she graduated and got married, both in the month of June, and proceeded to have four children over the next six years. In 1963, they built the Dexter Motor Lodge. Jackie was very active in community affairs including, Cub Scout den mother, Brownie Girl Scout leader, Girl Scout leader, member of the Parish Council, church choir, Dexter Women’s Literary Club, charter member of the Dexter Aero Club, ambulance attendant, Deputy Sheriff, Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis, cooking for church suppers, providing the annual 4th of July lobster cookouts for family and friends, the 99’s, the Maine Wing, Civil Air Patrol and was serving as a Mission Qualified Search & Rescue Pilot. Jackie traveled extensively, including trips to southern and southwest United States, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, Bahamas, Portugal, and Scotland. Her goal in life was to become a commercial pilot and eventually she was able to do some “flying for hire.” She is survived by her husband, Reginald T. McKenney of Dexter; four children, Al of Dexter, Terri of Newport Beach, Calif., Toni of Atlanta, Ga., and Lisa of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Travis, Ashley, Jessica, and Matthew. A celebration of her life will be held 1-4 p.m., Sunday, May 14, at the Dexter United Methodist Church, Lower Main Street, Dexter.
