AURORA – James A. Drew, 59, passed away peacefully Sept. 26, 2007, with his family at his side, at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Hollis, the son of John Jay Drew and Maxine Laura Drew. He attended Hollis and Westbrook schools before joining the Coast Guard. After completing four years with the guard, he returned to Maine, working as an electrician and a stained glass artisan. He exhibited his artwork at shows throughout the area. Jim later attended the University of Maine acquiring a master’s degree in earth sciences and then on to degrees in archaeology and cartography. After moving to the Hancock County region and settling in the Amherst Aurora area, he used his education to serve the people of the area by becoming the executive director of the Hancock County Planning Commission. Jim was also head of the Bucksport Community Development Office and co-director of the Union River Associates, during which time he helped to draw up and implement the Union River Management plan. He is survived by his father, John J. Drew; a daughter, Kathy A. Wakefield and her husband, Dennis; three grandchildren, Megan, Travis and Jamie; a brother, Gerry and his wife, DeAnna; a sister, Susan and her husband, Christopher; many nieces and a nephew. He is also survived by his many friends and neighbors in Hancock County that were very important to him. The family invites relatives and friends to share in a memorial gathering 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth.
