PLEASANT VALLEY, Conn. – James A. Hughes died May 6, 2005, at Hartford Hospital. He was the loving husband of Carroll A. Hughes for 43 years. He was born Aug. 15, 1935, in Bangor, the son of the late James A. Hughes Sr. and Mary Hughes. He received his bachelors and masters degrees in history and education from the University of Maine, Orono and his 6th year in history from St. Joseph College in West Hartford. He taught U.S. History at Northwestern Regional High School from 1958 until his retirement in 1992. He was a junior and senior class advisor for many years and history department head. He served on the Barkhamsted Democratic Town Committee and the Barkhamsted Zoning Commission. He was also a member of the Norfolk Curling Club. In addition to his devoted wife, he is survived by two sisters, Dawn E. Price and Judith Ann Hart; four nieces, Karen Hart, Colleen Hart, Jill Coughlin and Kristen Cronin; five nephews, Jeffrey, Steven and Richard Brochu and Jason Price and Daniel Hart; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, at the Immaculate Conception Church, New Hartford. Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, New Hartford, Conn. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 5 Steele Road, New Hartford has care of the arrangements. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church, P.O.
