DEXTER – James B. ‘Jimmy’ Burgess, 70, lost his brave battle with cancer Feb. 22, 2005, peacefully at his home in Dexter. He was born Dec. 22, 1934, in Dover-Foxcroft, William and Leona (Johnston) Burgess. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator for International Paper. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Kay Burgess, of Dexter; two sons, Mike and his wife, Julie Burgess, of Wells, and Scott Burgess of California; seven precious grandchildren; two brothers, William Burgess of Arizona, and Malcolm and his wife, Beverly Burgess, of Connecticut; thoughtful cousins and many loving relatives. Jimmy is also survived by scores of friends of all ages and was known for his colorful stories, his “words of wisdom”, and his eagerness to lend a hand. He liked to leave you with a chuckle and a story worth repeating, and especially loved the stories you might not dare to repeat. Friends may call 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. Spring burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter.
