BELFAST and ETNA – Bruce Wayne Edwards, 73, husband of Rowena (Cobb) Edwards died un-expectedly Feb. 21, 2005, at a Jacksonville, Fla., hospital. He was born Feb. 21, 1932, in Upper Kent, Canada, the son of Albert Edwards Sr. and Mattie (Carney) Edwards. Bruce was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had been a longtime resident of Etna. He was a building contractor and home builder. Along with his wife Rowena they also owned seven greenhouses for many years before their retirement. Following their retirement Bruce and Rowena moved to Belfast and wintered in Florida. He was a member of the West Levant Church of God. Over the years Bruce enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling, especially their trips to Alaska. Bruce is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Rowena of Belfast and Florida; two daughters, Carol Goupil of Lakeview, Mass., and Joan Fratus and her husband, Kevin, of Tucson, Ariz.; one brother, Albert Edwards Jr. of Canada; one sister, Melva O’Neil of Canada, one sister-in-law, Nancy Edwards of Salem, N.H., four grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, Lillian and Elden Mayhew of Newburgh and Arthur Tolman of Stockton Springs. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother and one sister. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden, where a funeral service will be held, 1 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Terry Campbell of the West Levant Church of God officiating. Interment in the springtime will be in Simpson’s Corner Cemetery, Dixmont. Arrangements entrusted to the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden.
