PORTAGE and PATTEN – James H. Leighton Sr., 82, died Jan 24, 2004, at Houlton. He was born on June 8, 1921, in Limestone, the son of Neal and Carrie (Price) Leighton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He retired from the Limestone Hospital as a hospital engineer after 33 years. He was a past fire chief of the Limestone Fire Dept. James was a former member of the American Legion and was a past president of Kiwanis, and a registered Maine guide for more than 39 years. He was survived by his wife of 62 years, Rose (Engstrom) Leighton of Portage and Crystal; two children, James A. Leighton Jr. and his wife, Wanda, of Orrington, and Caroline and her husband, Mike Skinner, of Crystal; three grandchildren, CJ Leighton and his wife, Carolyn, Ashley Skinner, and Brooks Skinner and his wife, Misty; three great-grandchildren, Brooke and Parker Skinner and Samantha Floyd; two sisters, Shirley Orr of Florida, Alene Thompson of Presque Isle; one brother, Neal Leighton Jr. of Limestone. A celebration of his life will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at the Limestone United Memorial Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mt.
