FAIRFIELD – Katharine “Katie” Rollins Brown, 91, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at the Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home in Waterville. She was born Jan. 14, 1913, in Waterville, the daughter of Fred W. and Lillian (Kelley) Rollins, the youngest of three children. She graduated from the Coburn Classical Institute in Waterville. She also attended the Westbrook Junior College and graduated from Colby College in 1936. She was then employed by Pierce, White and Drummond Insurance and Investment Brokers. After a period of traveling throughout Europe she and Robert (Bob) Brown were married on May 26, 1939, at the First Baptist Church in Fairfield. They spent their entire married life of 64 years in the Fairfield area. She was a loving and devoted homemaker for all those years, raising three sons and very active in many community service organizations and boards including Sunset Home, Lawrence Library, Fairfield Women’s Club, Fairfield Historical Society, Maine Home for Little Wanderers’, Republican State Delegate and a lifetime member of the Fairfield First Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert O. Brown, who died on April 24, 2002; as well as her brother, Henry Rollins; sister, Mary Rollins Millett; and a daughter-in-law, Heather. She is survived by her three sons, Timothy of Buxton and his children, Kimbalie, Dana, Scott and Jason; Mark and his wife, Constance of Benton, and their children, Sunshine, Jamalyn, Darrick, and Xandy; and Eric and his wife, Deborah, of Benton, and their children, Addie, Michael, and Paige; three grandchildren from Kingfield, Kirsten, Bjarni, and Brenna; her sister in law, Ruth Peabody of Houlton; and 10 great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to gather for a period of visitation from noon until time of services at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at the First Baptist Church, Newhall Street, Fairfield, with the Rev. Kristen Bjorn officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Maplewood Cemetery in Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Fairfield Historical Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield.
