PRESQUE ISLE – James L. Hutcheon, 84, died March 29, 2004, at a local hospital. He was born April 11, 1919, in Perth, New Brunswick, the son of Lewis and Hazel (Towle) Hutcheon. He attended Presque Isle schools and graduated from the University of Maine, Class of 1941. He served 53 months in the U.S. Army during World War II. James was employed for 32 years by Maine Potato Growers, Inc. in the potato sales department as assistant sales manager and manager of Mercantile Trading. He was briefly associated with Maine’s first marketing agreement and the Maine Potato Council. As a young man he had been employed during the summer months as area sales manager of American National Growers Corp., marketing fresh peaches in Georgia and South Carolina. Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Catherine (Freeman) Hutcheon of Presque Isle; a sister, Mrs. Thomas (Dolly) Bean of Enfield, Conn.; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Winkler; and a brother, George Hutcheon. Relatives and friends may call 3-5 p.m. Thursday at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Main Street, Presque Isle, with the Rev. Alfred Irving celebrant.
