HAMPDEN – James M. McClure, 70, husband of Elizabeth (Drotar) McClure, passed away April 5, 2004, surrounded by his family, at his home in Hampden. He was born March 11, 1934, in Calais, the son of James T. and Alice M. (Jackson) McClure. Jim was a graduate of Calais High School in 1951, St. Stephen’s Business School in 1952, and Husson College in 1961. He joined the National Guard in 1949. Jim then joined the U.S. Army as a National Guard Enlistee in 1954, with the rank of Staff Sergeant, spending 16 months in Korea. Jim started working for Zayre Department Stores in 1960, and advanced to store manager of the store in Augusta in 1967, transferring to the Bangor Zayre store in 1978. He retired after 30 years with the company. Jim was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying a simple walk in the woods, hunting, fishing and camping. Wood-working in his shop at home was another hobby that brought many hours of pleasure to him and to his family and friends who enjoyed the finished product. He was predeceased by his mother, father and brother, Paul McClure. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Lieutenant J.G. Daniel McClure of the U.S. Navy and his wife, Diane; one daughter, Deborah Morris of Hooksett, N.H. and her husband, Bradley; one sister, Carolyn Sprague and her husband, Carleton, of Calais; four grandchildren; several sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 70 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Bob Vaillancourt, pastor officiating.
