NORWOOD, Mass. – James Russell, 96, formerly of Canton, Mass., and Boston, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at Ellis Nursing Home, Norwood, Mass. He was born Dec. 16, 1910, in Robbinston, to the late James P. Russell, M.D., and Mary Eleanor (Harvell) Russell. James was an underwriting consultant for John Hancock Insurance Co., Boston, for 44 years, before retiring in 1975. He was a stamp collector for many years, a former treasurer of the town of Norwood Republican Committee and a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Norwood, Mass., for many years. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Lillian J. (Johnson) Russell; and brother, Martin B. Russell. Survivors include his daughter, Martha A. Russell of Norwood, Mass.; son, James B. Russell of Norwood, Mass.; a nephews, Charles M. Russell of Boston and James Russell of Casper, Wyo.; and a niece, Mary Ellen Gerard of Worland, Wyo. At the request of the family, all services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Norwood Food Pantry, care of Grace Episcopal Church, 150 Chapel St., Norwood, MA 02062.
