SEARSPORT – Jane E. Mercier, 72, died unexpectedly Nov. 25, 2007, in Belfast. She was born Aug. 4, 1935, in Sandwich, Mass., the daughter of Benjamin “Bub” and Mabel Morrow. She grew up in Sandwich, Mass., graduated from Sandwich High School and went on to attend Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School as well as flight attendants training. On Dec. 25, 1954, she married Robert G. Mercier and was by his side throughout his 20 years in the U.S. Air Force traveling across the U.S. Upon his retirement, they settled on Cape Cod, Mass., where they remained for 25 years in the town of Bourne. Jane worked as an archivist in the Sandwich Town Hall for many years and spent several years researching her family genealogy as well as the genealogy of many other local families. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Chrystal and John LaPine of West Barnstable, Mass., and Holly and Ken Harris of Miami; her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Bethe Mercier of Bangor; and son, Scot Mercier and his companion, Sandy Weymouth, of Searsport. She is also survived by grandchildren, Nicole, Joshua, Lindsey, Ben and Cailee; several nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. A service of remembrance will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Harbor Church of Searsport, Route 1, Searsport. Interment will be held at a later date.
