NEW MARKET, Md. – Jane (Philbrick) “Tish” Armstrong, 80, died Monday, April 23, 2007, surrounded by her loving family after a long illness, at her residence. Born June 14, 1926 in Bangor, she was the daughter of the late Karl Russell and Florence (Dodge) Philbrick. She was the wife of 56 years to William J. Armstrong Jr. Mrs. Armstrong graduated from Colby-Sawyer College, New London, N.H. and Duke University. She married her husband in Seattle, Wash., just before he was recalled to active duty in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and accompanied him during his Air Force service throughout the United States and Europe. She was a well-known antique dealer in the Mid-Atlantic region. She began her business at the Comus Inn in 1964, where she had a shop for 10 years. She then moved her business to New Market, Md., and had a shop there until 1999, when she retired from the antique business. She also displayed in antique shows from Virginia to New England, primarily in the greater Washington metropolitan area. She served several terms as president of the New Market Antique Dealers Association and was active in town functions and celebrations such as New Market Days and Christmas in New Market. She was active for many years in the New Market Garden Club and was an avid bridge player. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Junior League and a Howard Street Hornet. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Armstrong is survived by two daughters, Carol Green and husband, Dennis, of Ijamsville, Md., and Nancy Musser and husband, Jonathon, of Falls Church, Va.; two sons, William J. Armstrong III and wife, Dr. Pamela, of Damascus, Md., and Robert P. Armstrong of Frederick, Md.; and 11 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Samuel W. Philbrick. There will be no calling or visiting hours. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 27, at the New Market United Methodist Church, New Market, Md., with the Rev. Michael Watson officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702 or to the New Market Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, New Market, MD 21774. Arrangements are with Robert E.
