BANGOR and MOUNT DESERT – Janet Jordan Additon, 90, died Jan. 23, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. She was born March 27, 1916, in Hampton, Va., the only child of John and Bessie (Loveitt) Robinson. As the child of a career Army officer, Janet grew up in many different locations, among the most exotic of which were the Philippines and the U.S. Panama Canal Zone, where she graduated from Cristobal High School in 1932. She entered the College of William and Mary at age 16, and graduated with a degree in microbiology in 1937. She married Harvey Ernest Jordan II, M.D., in 1940 and they lived outside Philadelphia until his death in 1968. She moved to Charlottesville, Va., in 1969 and worked for many years as a medical researcher at the University of Virginia Hospital, but always saved the month of August to spend in her favorite place, her cottage on Long Pond, Mount Desert. She married Elwood P. Additon in 1996 and they divided their time between Bangor, Mount Desert and St. Petersburg, Fla., until his death in 2002. Janet traveled extensively throughout the world, including China, Russia, the Mediterranean, Europe and the United States, including Alaska. She was an extraordinary woman with an incredible zest for life and learning. She touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her and will be dearly missed. Survivors include her son, Harvey Ernest Jordan III of Oakland, Calif.; her daughter, Mary J. Barnett and her husband, Thomas, of Dana Point, Calif.; four grandchildren, Marilyn Koepke, Christine Neill, Thomas Barnett and Andrew Jordan; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey Koepke, Shawn Neill and Christopher Neill; and four stepchildren, Stephen Additon, Susan Farris, Carolyn Anthony and Diane Charney. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett officiating. Those who wish to remember Janet in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Children’s Miracle Network, Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, ME 04401.
