DOVER-FOXCROFT – Janice Rogers Randall Ellery, 85, wife of Dr. John W. Ellery, died July 6, 2005, at a local nursing home. She was born June 15, 1920, in Portland, the daughter of Walter Trefethen and Marjorie Spaulding Randall of Peaks Island. She attended school on Peaks Island, graduated from Portland High School in 1937, and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston, Mass., in 1939. Prior to her marriage Aug. 3, 1940, to John W. Ellery of Danvers, Mass., she worked at Maine Savings Bank in Portland. During the summer of 1941, she and her husband were hutmasters for the Appalachian Mountain Club at Zealand Falls Hut. Mrs. Ellery also worked for Time Magazine and for an advertising agency in Chicago. A devoted homemaker, she was a member and past president of the Women’s Auxiliary to the Maine Optometric Association, a member of the Molasto Club of Dover-Foxcroft, the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church, and the Mayflower Society. In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by three daughters, Judith R. Ellery of Dover-Foxcroft, Marcia B. Ellery of Bedford, Mass., Nancy Ellery Celis and her husband, Dr. Esteban Celis, of New Orleans, La.; a sister, Nancy Wentworth and her husband, John A. Wentworth, of West Hartford, Conn.; seven grandchildren, John R. Ellery, Justin E. Stern, Julia T. Stern, Peter R. Stern, Sebastian Celis, Stephen A. Celis, David V. Celis; and three nephews. A memorial graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at the family lot in Rural Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Ernest Campbell, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thompson Free Library Building Fund, 186 East Main St., Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
