BANGOR – Jaron Joel “J.J.” Secord, beloved son of April and Paul Secord, passed from this world, Oct. 2, 2006, surrounded by his family, five days before his 14th birthday. Jaron was a very special young boy with beautiful brown eyes, a winning smile and a very big heart. A treasured member of his busy family, he enjoyed all of his brother’s sporting and scouting events, family trips and get-togethers at camp. Jaron was one of Bangor’s first “Super Kid” Soap Box Derby racers and first local champion at the All American Soap Box Derby race, Akron, Ohio, 2003. He enjoyed all kinds of music, especially country. He loved the holidays, particularly Christmas and any and all birthdays. Jaron loved the simple things in life, sunny days, leaves dancing in the wind, the color green and being with the people he loved. His gentle ways and unique personality will be dearly missed by his many friends in the community and the hundreds of people across the country whose lives were forever touched by his smile. Although he will leave a big hole in many hearts, comfort is taken in that Jaron is free: borne up on eagle wings and securely held in the palm of His hand. In addition to his parents, he is survived by three very special “utters,” Rene, Tyler and Devin, all of Bangor; maternal grandmother, Laurie Barton; great-grandmother, Alexandra “Babe” Gilbert of Whitefield; paternal grandfather, Theodore Secord of Westbrook; three aunts, Susan “Count” Jones, Sharon Ross, Joanne Blackmore and their families; three uncles, great-uncle, Norm Gilbert, Doug “Sonny” Barton and James Barton and their families; many cousins. He leaves three special friends, Lisa Lunn, Ellen Van Vranken and Barbara Wais; and best K-9 buddy, “Turbo.” He was predeceased by maternal grandfather, Douglas “Granka” Barton; and paternal grand-mother, Sylvia “Meme” Secord. The Secord family express their gratitude to the staff of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Eastern Maine Medical Center, especially, Dr. Wood, Allie and Pat, for their compassion and support. Friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 754 Ohio St., Bangor, with the Rev. Thomas Lequin, pastor, presider. Those who wish to remember Jaron in a special way may make gifts in his memory, care of Eastern Maine Charities, Children’s Miracle Network, P.O. Box 404, Bangor, ME 04401.
