CARIBOU – Jeannette Lagassie, 95, formerly of Caribou, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at St. Andre’s Nursing Care facility in Biddeford. She was born Aug. 13, 1908, in St. Leonard, New Brunswick, a daughter of Aime and Julie Michaud Gauvin. She moved to Caribou at the age of three years old. She was educated in Caribou schools and graduated from Caribou High School. While in high school she was the Art Director of the school newspaper ” The Arcturus.” On Oct. 25, 1927, she married Patrick J. Lagassie. He died Jan. 5, 1963. Mrs. Lagassie was employed as a typist by the State of Maine at the Federal State Inspection Service in Caribou for 28 years until her retirement in 1973. Following her retirement she moved to the Old Orchard Beach area. While in Caribou she was a member of the Holy Rosary Parish and Ladies of St. Anne. She was predeceased by a son, Neil Louis Lagassie. Survivors include two sons, Donald D. of New Haven, Ind., John A. of Boston, Mass.; two daughters, Sister Mary Ann and Sister Lucille Lagassie of the Order of Presentation of Mary, both from Methuen, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home, 36 Portland Ave., Old Orchard Beach. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Margaret’s Church in Old Orchard Beach. Burial will be in the spring in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Caribou.
