BANGOR – Jeannette St. Germain, 80, died Jan. 28, 2004, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born July 19, 1923, the daughter of Arthur L. and Gertrude M. (Campbell) Littlefield. She attended Bangor Schools and graduated from Bangor High School. At the age of 18, she married her childhood sweetheart, Ross St. Germain. They remained happily married until his death in 1980. She lived most of her life in Bangor until the couple bought a house in Hampden in 1972. Living in a country setting fostered in her a love of the outdoors. She landscaped the property beautifully and loved caring for her trees and flowers, as well as the many birds that came to her feeders. As a child, Jeannette was a well-known dancer, performing throughout the area as “Little Jeannette Littlefield.” She charmed her audiences with toe and tap routines, dressed in the elaborate costumes designed and made by her mother. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary as a teenager and marched in the color guard. After marriage she developed an interest in art. She studied with many local artists, including Frank Narnatomis and William Moise. She was a talented painter and sold her artwork locally. After the premature death of her husband, Jeannette faced the challenge of widowhood with courage, dignity and strength. She learned to drive at the age of 57, bought a car, and took on the responsibility of managing her own life alone. She became interested in collecting dolls and eventually began to make her own clay and cloth fashion dolls complete with detailed costumes of the 18th and 19th century. She enjoyed eating out with friends and taking rides to the coast, especially Schoodic Point. Jeannette is survived by her two children, Cheri Walton of Eastport and Michael St. Germain of Spring Hill, Fla.; three grandchildren, Carrie Winn, Jesse Walton and Amber St. Germain. She was predeceased by her brother, Galen Littlefield. She will also be remembered by her nephews, Glenn and Jon Richards, whom she brought up for several years. At the end of her life she was blessed with the friendship and watchful care of her guardian, Wanda Lyford and her husband, Jim Moran. Family and friends plan a private memorial. Arrangements by Foley Funeral Service.
