BANGOR – Joan (Crie) Stone Johnson, 75, died July 19, 2004, at a local healthcare facility, after a long courageous battle with colon cancer. She was born March 19, 1929, in Thomaston, the daughter of Oscar and Mary (Campbell) Crie. Joan was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Penobscot Valley Country Club. She also was a recognized duplicate bridge player, a volunteer for St. Joseph’s Hospital, and the Bangor Humane Society. She always enjoyed her friends, especially the small group of “ladies” who golfed, played bridge, and took day trips together. She loved animals and especially her Yorkie, “Charlie” and cat, “Suzie.” She is survived by her four children, Thomas Stone and his wife, Elizabeth, of Newport, Peter Stone of Lincoln, Marti Stone and her partner, Dr. Ames Curtis, of Rockport, Polly and her husband, Dr. Tom Huntsman, of Flycreek, N.Y.; stepsons and their wives, Scott and Jane Johnson of Bangor, David Johnson and Connie Rizzo of Glen Rock, N.J., Michael and Rosalie Johnson of Bangor; her sister, Jean Hodgkins of Thomaston; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two husbands, Edward Stone and Philip Johnson; and brother, Gordon Crie. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Friday, July 23, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at All Souls Congregational Church, Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, Pastor and Teacher, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at 192 Fountain St., Bangor, immediately following the service.
