HAMPDEN – Joan (McKay) Meadow, 74, died March 3, 2008, at her home, after a long illness. She was born Dec. 7, 1933, in Tynemouth, England. She attended Ilford Girl’s County High School, and was a survivor of the London Blitz during World War II. After the war, she and her parents moved to the U.S., where they first lived in New York City, and then settled in New Orleans. She became a naturalized citizen of the U.S., March 4, 1953. She earned a Juris Doctor at the Loyola School of Law and was admitted to practice in the bars of Louisiana and Arkansas. She worked as a private attorney, and then for many years as an investigator for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, eventually opening the Little Rock office of the agency. In 1975, she married Curtis L. Meadow in New Orleans. They lived in Arkansas for several years before moving to Maine in 1984. She was the first executive director of MESDA, Maine’s software and technology industry association. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Curtis Meadow; two daughters, Janice L. Bourland of Newcastle and Diane R. Taylor of Maarssen, Netherlands; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her life will be celebrated in a private ceremony at her home.
