NORTHEAST HARBOR – Joan McNulty Coulombe, 83, died April 14, 2005, at the home she built with her husband, Norman, in Northeast Harbor. She was born April 6, 1922, in Bangor, the daughter of Arthur E. and Marion A. (Wilson) McNulty. She graduated from Gilman High School, Northeast Harbor and Westbrook College, Portland. She worked in a hospital laboratory in Connecticut for many years. Joan met the love of her life, Norman, at a USO Club just after he served overseas in World War II and married him in July 1946. They moved to Northeast Harbor in 1977. Joan and Norman raised many well-loved dogs over their lifetime together. Joan was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Northeast Harbor, and served as treasurer of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Women. She was also a member of the Northeast Harbor Women’s Club. Joan was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Norman J. Coulombe in July 2004; her brothers, Charles McNulty and Arthur “Jack” McNulty; and her sister, Barbara McNulty Coyne. Joan is survived by a brother-in-law, James Coyne of Fort Kent; sister-in-law, Frances McNulty-Deden of Wisconsin; and much-loved nieces and nephews, Marion “Penny” Coyne Albert, Michael L. McNulty, Kim McNulty Anderson, Kai E. McNulty, Kelly Ann McNulty, Benny Jo McNulty, Paul I. Munzert and their families, including several great-nieces and great-nephews. Joan will be dearly missed by her special friends, Chuck, Martha, Matthew, Michael, Mark and Chad Bucklin, Fran, Sarah and Rachel Butler; and her treasured friend of more than 70 years, Virginia “Gigi” Branscom Phelps. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held 4 p.m. Friday, April 22, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Kimball Road, Northeast Harbor. Graveside services will be held in June at a date to be announced.
