OLD TOWN and GREENBUSH – Joel Wayman Graves, 45, died Jan. 7, 2006, at a Bangor hospital after a battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 29, 1960, in Farmington, the son of Thomas N. and Dorothy A. (Buzzell) Graves. Joel worked with the Special Olympics for many years. He started in his youth and continued throughout his adult life. Joel was an avid skier and enjoyed ice fishing. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy of Old Town; a son, Benjamin J. Graves of Greenbush; a brother, Gregory T. Graves and wife, Colleen; and niece, Kayte K. Graves, all of Cape Elizabeth; a grandson, Jeremiah T. Lucas-Graves. He was also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Joel was predeceased by his father in 1992. Friends are invited to share their memories of Joel 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at the Essex Street Baptist Church, 82 Essex St., Bangor and/or 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Northeast Harbor.
