CUTLER and TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – John A. Reese, 76, died Oct. 5, 2005, from com-plications of surgery. He was born June 29, 1929, in Hazelton, Pa. John served as a meteorologist in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He joined Pan Am as a meteorologist. Pan Am was a subcontractor for NASA. He served as chief engineer for the Down Range Weather Stations that monitored the weather for the early space programs on islands like Eleutrera and Ascension. He then studied an accelerated program at the Tallahassee Community College, receiving a degree in Environmental Engineering. John became employed with the U.S. Geological Service and later with the state of Florida in the solid waste department. He was the author of many of Florida’s specifications for solid waste disposal. In 1994, John retired and enjoyed spending summers in Cutler, and winters in the Tallahassee, Fla. area. During his retirement he enjoyed building his home in Florida and restoring his summer home in Cutler. Surviving are his companion, Jean Methlie of Monticello; three children, Diane Purvis and her husband, Mike, of Monticello, Fla., Mark Reese and his wife, Jackie, of Quincy, Fla., Andrew Reese and his wife, Becky, of Tallahassee, Fla.; three grandsons, Thomas Wallace, Michael Purvis and Brandon Reese; Jean’s three daughters, Sheryl Lutz of Boca Raton, Fla., Janet Martinak of Rehrersburg, Pa., Barbara Sadler of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; two nephews, Michael Downs of Newark, Del.; Thomas Downs of Lewes, Del.; Services will be private.
