BANGOR – John Carlton Dort passed away Feb. 11, 2007, after a brief illness. John was born Aug. 18, 1933, a son of Lloyd W. “Huck” Dort and Alice L. (Littlefield) Dort. John was educated in Bangor and Hampden schools and graduated from Hampden Academy, Class of 1951. He received his business degree from Husson College in 1957. John was employed by the city of Bangor Motor Pool Administration for 33 years, before retiring in 1997. John took great pride in his gardens and loved working in them. He also enjoyed bowling and watching the Red Sox win. He is survived by his brother, Louis O. Dort and his wife, Clarice, of Kenduskeag; many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Jennifer Yanofsky of Eddington. He was predeceased by his father in 1963 and mother in 1997; a beloved sister, Janice L. Bodge in 1999; a beloved niece, Cheryl (Bodge, Knox) Vaillancourt in 1985; brother, Harvard L. Clark in 2002; and a nephew, Robert E. Dort in 2006. John will always be remembered as a good, kind, generous man. He will be forever in our hearts, “Uncle Johnny.” A private celebration of John’s life will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the home of his niece. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer, at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, a donation in John’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice. John was fond of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. A service of Memorial Alternatives, Bangor. John composed this poem in honor of his niece, Cheryl. “When the flowers bloom in springtime, and life around is new, we reach into our memories and we remember you. When the warmth filled days of summer go, and there just remain a few, we reach into our memories and we remember you. When the leaves turn in the autumn, and the grass is rife with dew, we reach into our memories and we remember you. When the pure white snow of winter comes, and nature casts a view, we reach into our memories and we remember you.”
