DURAND, Wis. – Lyle H. Smith, 89, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2007. He was born Dec. 31, 1918, to Susan (Clark) and Arthur Smith. Lyle married Catherine Deevy, May 7, 1943. They lived in New Jersey and Wisconsin, finally settling in Durand, Wis. Lyle worked as an auto mechanic for various dealerships and bodyshops in Durand, Wis., and Reeds manufacturing plant, Lakehurst, N.J. Lyle was a World War II veteran and proudly served on VFW parade honor guards. Lyle was an easy-going person who loved the outdoors and fishing. His children and grandchildren were always special to him and will miss him very much. Survivors include his wife, Catherine “Kay;” five sons, John and wife, Laura, of Limestone, Kenneth and wife, Mary Lynn, of The Woodlands, Texas, Richard and wife, Joyce, Lyle and wife, Debbie, of Lanoka Harbor, N.J., and Thomas and wife, Lisa, of Beachwood, N.J.; two daughters, Barbara and husband, Duane Meixner, of Arkansaw, Wis., and Kathleen and husband, George Davis, of Ocean Gate, N.J.; three brothers, Kenneth of Anacortes, Wash., Raymond and Norman of Durand, Wis.; one sister, Marjorie Samuelson of Durand; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and six brothers, Elwin, Ralph, Floyd, Garold, Robert and Earl, and two sisters, Ila Prissel and infant Beth. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at St. Mary’s Church with Fr. Jeffrey Burrill officiating. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Rhiel Funeral Chapel, Durand, Wis., and 11 a.m. Friday until time of services at the church.
