JOHN CARR MATTAWAMKEAG – John Carr, 85, husband of Margaret (Lezotte) Carr, died May 8, 2004, at a Lincoln healthcare facility. He was born July 10, 1918, in Danforth, the son of Ellis William and Edith Pearl (Cochran) Carr. John was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, and was a life member of VFW Post No. 7409, Mattawamkeag. He worked for the Maine Central Railroad until his retirement. He loved to play cribbage and cards at the VFW and the Senior Citizens. He loved all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife of 57 years, Margaret, he is survived by two sons, Steven Carr and his wife, Darlene, of Eddington, and Kenneth Carr of Martinsville, Va.; seven grandchildren, John Carr, Kristi Buswell, Steven Carr Jr., Chevy Carr, Capri Carr, Steven Carr and Kenneth Carr; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Alton Carr of Bangor; three sisters, Virgie Quimby of Orono, Ruth Beetham of Plymouth, and Nettie Thompson of Florida; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Leon Robinson officiating. Interment will be in Mattawamkeag Cemetery. Those who wish may donate in his memory to the Activities Fund at Colonial Acres Nursing Home. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
