HUDSON – John Cunningham, 83, died July 21, 2006, at a local hospital after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was born March 20, 1923, in Hudson, the son of John P. and Florence (Grant) Cunningham. John was a self-employed woodsman for 40 years and later did carpentry and was a great furniture restorer for many. He plowed and sanded roads for the town of Hudson for several years. He truly loved Hudson Hill, where he and his wife raised their six children and the place he loved to hunt with his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his loving and mischievous smile and his helping hand to many. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; two sons, John D. Cunningham and wife, Tina, of Hudson and Dale L. Cunningham and mate, Roberta Spencer, of Kenduskeag; four daughters, Gloria Curtis of Bangor, Sharon Tozier of Bushnell, Fla., Eva Allen of Corinth and Gayle Munzner and husband, Charlie, of Dover-Foxcroft; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Gloria Jameson and Barbara Starky; and special uncle, Elmer Grant. He will be greatly missed by his dogs, Libby and Roxie, that he loved giving treats to while he was eating at the table, and by his cat, K.C. A very special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice and their staff and the Home Care ladies, Alice and Marilyn. Also the staff on the sixth floor for their excellent care. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at Hudson Cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Alternatives.
