BREWER and BANGOR John D. Harvey, 78, died May 16, 2005, at a Bangor healthcare center. He was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Portland, the son of Richard E. and Mary E. (McCahill) Harvey. John attended schools in the Portland area and worked as a machinist during World War II receiving a certificate of appreciation from the Department of Civil Defense for his efforts. He was a longtime resident of Brewer, where he lived with his brother, the late Very Rev. Richard E. Harvey. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was a dedicated sacristan and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Richard Harvey Council No. 6728 and the Fourth Degree Assembly. He is survived by three sisters, Catherine Quinn of Rhode Island, Dorothy McGrady of Colorado and Jean Pratt and her husband, Capt. William Pratt, of Bethesda, Md.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother in January 2005. Friends may visit 4-7 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, North Main Street, Brewer, with the Rev. Joel R. Cyr, pastor, celebrant. Burial and committal prayers will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
