LINCOLN – John E. Weatherbee, 76, husband of Lorraine (Morrison) Weatherbee, died July 19, 2006, in his beloved town of Lincoln. He was born July 9, 1930, in Lincoln, the son of Robert E. and Hattie (Lane) Weatherbee. His favorite time of year was homecoming week, this week, and he has now truly gone “home.” He graduated from Mattawamkeag High School. John belonged to the Maine National Guard for 35 years and made many lasting friendships. He coached basketball at the junior high level for 50 years and was always pleased to meet his “old Bobcat” players in his travels. John was honored beyond words that the Ella P. Burr Gym was to be named after him in a ceremony July 20, 2006. He was a member of the Maine Antique Tractor Club and loved to be in parades with his family and friends. He was very proud to have served 16 years on the Lincoln Town Council and was re-elected many times because the voters knew he would use their money wisely and “tightly.” Over the years he served on various committees. He enjoyed the Springfield Fair, his hunting camp, Mattanawcook Lake, mowing lawns, coffee with his friends at 5:30 a.m. at McDonald’s and watching “his” kids play sports. But he will be remembered most as a very loving, and well-loved, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lorraine (Morrison) Weatherbee; a son, Blaine of Lincoln; two daughters, Jane Weatherbee of Tarpon Springs, Fla. and Suzanne Krapf of Lincoln; his cherished grandchildren, Allan Trott of Milford, John Trott and Meagan, John Krapf Jr., Katie Krapf and Blaine Weatherbee, all of Lincoln; three siblings, Polly Webster, Robert C. Weatherbee and his wife, Sylvia, and Elaine West, all of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves a special family friend, John Krapf Sr. of Springfield. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Thursday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln. Everyone is invited to the Ella P. Burr School 6:30 p.m. Thursday for the John Weatherbee Gym dedication ceremony. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wade Shaefer officiating. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery. Those who wish may donate in his memory to a fund to purchase a trophy display case at the Ella P. Burr School. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
