EAST MACHIAS – John Edward Woodman, 76, passed away Feb. 15, 2008, at a Bangor hospital, after an extended illness. He was born May 9, 1931, in Machias, son of the late Guy StClair Woodman and Laura Verna (Cook) Woodman. John married Alice Longfellow Hall of Machias, March 17, 1973, at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Machias. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. John served April 25, 1951 – April 14, 1955. He served aboard the USS Gilbert Islands, CVE 107. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, European Clasp and National Defense Service Medal. After Naval service, he worked 28 years with A&P stores in Machias, East Machias, Calais, Eastport and Brewer. He was pastor of the Machias branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. During this period, he took courses at Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa, to further his ministry. In addition to his wife, Alice, John is survived by three daughters, Stephanie, Terrilyn and Tammy; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. John will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 35 years, Alice; and his dog, Benji; and cat, Noelle. John was predeceased by brothers, Ray and Dalton; and sisters, Cathleen, Zella, Eda, Eunice, Elsie and Helena. Visiting hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Community of Christ Church, North Street, Machias, officiated by Evangelist Almon Emerson.
