CAPE ELIZABETH – John Edwin Marino, 83, of Cape Elizabeth, died Nov. 23, 2004, at Springbrook Healthcare Center after many years of living with Alzheimer’s Disease. John was born in Presque Isle, March 2, 1921, the third of four children of Giovanni “John” Marino and Pearl White Marino. He graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1939. John worked for Maine Public Service and First National Stores until he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard on Sept. 2, 1942. Upon his discharge in 1946, he returned to First National Stores, where he grew to be its vice president of Operations for Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. He expected no less than the best from himself and his employees. He enjoyed watching them grow and shared in their accomplishments. He married Henrietta “Red” Wade on Aug. 27, 1950, and recently celebrated 54 years of marriage. They have two children, Marcia Corradini of Raymond and Bradford John of Cape Elizabeth. He adored his “Little Red” and was so proud of his children and grandchildren. His love of nature was surpassed only by his demand for honesty. He took time for details and friends and always enjoyed a challenge. John had a heart as big as “The County.” John is survived by his wife, children, Brad’s wife, Christy and their three children, Dominick, Alexander John and Angelina of Cape Elizabeth; a sister, Marion Craig of Portland, Oregon; a sister-in-law, Jean Marino of Presque Isle; and four nephews. The family will hold a private service, and a memorial celebration of his life will be held in the spring. Arrangements are by Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 172 State St., Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 163 Lancaster St., Portland, ME 04101 or to the First Congregational Church, 301 Cottage Road, South Portland, ME 04106. John’s family would like to thank the devoted caregivers at Springbrook-3rd Floor for their kindness and unending patience throughout years of ever-changing circumstances.
