BANGOR – John Francis Doran Sr. passed away June 7, 2006, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 15, 1915, in Bangor, the son of John and Alice Doran. He was employed by New England Telephone Co. for 47 years, retiring in 1977. He served in the Navy in World War II in the Pacific Theater in New Guinea and the Philippines as a member of the 113th NCB. After his discharge from active duty, he served several additional years with the naval reserves retiring with the rank of CPO. He remained in contact with his many “Navy buddies” through correspondence and reunions held throughout the country. John is survived by a son, John of Bangor; a daughter, Margaret Brennan and her husband, Michael, of Bangor; a daughter, Mary Jane of Portland; a brother, Joseph Frederick of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Mary Evelyn; an infant son, Joseph Edward; a brother, James Edward; and a sister, Elizabeth. Friends and family may call 4-6 p.m. Monday, June 12, at Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Rudolph Leveille presiding. Interment with military honors will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choosing.
