CHARLESTON – John H. Higgins, 74, died Sept. 29, 2003, at his residence. He was born Oct. 29, 1928, in Charleston, the son of Lawrence and Geneva (Farmer) Higgins. John was born and raised in Charleston. He was a member of Olive Branch Lodge No. 124 AF & AM of Charleston. He served for many years as a volunteer Fireman on the Charleston Fire Department. John was self-employed as a truck driver for L.E. Higgins and Sons from age 15 until his retirement. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. John was a wonderful husband and father and a great provider for his family. He was a man of great integrity who will be remembered by his children and those who knew him for his work ethic. He will be sadly missed by us all. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Clara; his children, Evelyn and her husband, Ronald, of Glenburn, Harold and his wife, Debe, of Buras, La., Helen and her husband, David Cox, of Corinth, Clarice Nelson, Peggy and her husband, Dana Hopkins, Nancy Higgins and special friend, Larry Smith, Claudia and her husband, Gary Niles, all of Charleston; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lawrence Jr. of Dover-Foxcroft, Arthur, Frances and Clifford, all of Charleston; sisters, Theresa Tripp, Miriam Pitkins, both of New Hampshire, Betty Bragdon of Corinna, Marjorie Hagelin of Charleston, Alice Drinkwater of Bangor, Myra Champagne of Gardiner, Carolyn Chesley of Corinth; very special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clifford and Susan Allen of Hudson, Victorine Higgins of Guilford, Andre Fecteau of Bangor; multiple nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to mention. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Theodore; and a sister, Ruth Fecteau. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at the Charleston Pentecostal Church, Route 11A, Charleston, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, with the Rev. Ronnie Libby, pastor of Souls Harbor, Charleston, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments following the services Friday at the Charleston Pentecostal Church Fellowship Hall.
