HANCOCK – John H. Moore Sr., 73, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at Maine Coast Memorial Hos-pital, Ellsworth. He was born April 27, 1934, in Milbridge, the son of Roger and Beatrice (Beal) Moore. John served in the Navy during the Korean War, after which he met and married Marilyn (Ames) Moore. He worked as a fisherman and as a painter/varnisher at Young Brothers Boats and Hinckley Co. John enjoyed NASCAR races, movies, mackerel fishing, clamming and cooking. He was famous for his seafood stew and clam chowder, sending home jars to his children and family. John enjoyed spending time with his dear friends and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Norman and Marie Perkins of Surry. John and Norman spent hours tending Norm’s gardens and talking it over in his shop. He was a kind and caring man, who will be sadly missed by his family and friends. John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn (Ames) Moore; seven children, John Jr. and his wife, Susan, Roger and his wife, Kathi, Pamela Kneeland and her husband, Fred, Brenda Beal and her husband, Randy, Diana Moore, Michael Sr. and his wife, Susan, and Alice Chasse; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. John is also survived by four brothers, Peter and wife, Gloria, Winslow and wife, Mabel, Lloyd and wife, Doreen, and George; a sister, Pauline Rowe; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Donald Moore. The family wishes to thank the staff at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital for their excellent care and support. There will be a gathering for family and friends 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Downeast Social Hall, Steuben. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Pulmonology Department at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, 50 Union St., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
