ROQUE BLUFFS – John J. McEacharn Jr., 86, passed away April 12, 2007, at a Machias hospital after an extended illness. He was born March 1, 1921, in Machias, the son of the late John J. McEacharn Sr. and Frances (Mattatall) McEacharn. John met his wife, Ida Friedel, while stationed in Germany during World War II. During his service in the Army, John received a Silver Star and Purple Heart. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Ida McEacharn; son, John J. McEacharn III and his wife, Anna, of Coventry, Conn.; three grandchildren, Kelly, Kevin and Justin; four great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Ward and husband, John, of Pembroke; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two infants, three sisters and two brothers. The family gives a special thanks to friend, Bobby Wolf and Dr. Cynthia Sammis. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Longfellow Cemetery, Machias. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
