MILLINOCKET – John “Jack” Pelkey, 71, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at a local hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was born Dec. 6, 1932, in Millinocket the son of Joseph and Charlotte “Lottie” (Richards) Pelkey. Jack was married to Zola (Tardy) Pelkey for 49 years. They had nine children, Michael of Edgewood, N.M., and his family, Michael, Glen, Jason, and Cameron; Patrick and wife, Lynn, of Cary, N.C. and their family, Rebecca, Stephanie and husband, Kevin, and Kevin; Rose and Barry Legassey, of Millinocket; Juli and her husband, David Ratcliffe, of Aurora, Colo. and their family, Daniel and Zachary; Ruth and her husband, Gene Martin, and their family, Jarred and wife, Rachel, Timothy, and Benjamin; Thomas and wife, Sandra Pelkey, of Aurora, Colo. and their daughter, Olivia; Mark Pelkey and wife, Faye, of Millinocket and their children, Devin and Spencer; Mary Pelkey of New London, N.H. and her daughter, Lily Grace; Scott Pelkey and wife, Cindy, of Orono and their family Maria and John Paul; four great-grandchildren; Many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, eight siblings, and a granddaughter. Jack was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War and a member of the American Legion. He was very active in his community where he served on the Millinocket School Board and the Millinocket Town Council. He was very active with the Boy Scouts and Little League. He was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church where he taught religious education, served as a Lector, and served on the Parish Council. Jack worked for Great Northern Paper Company for many years retiring in 1990. He enjoyed the company of family and friends and times spent at his camp at Millinocket Lake. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, at R. L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Millinocket Cemetery.
