SOUTHWEST HARBOR John James Leonard Sr., 95, died June 2, 2008, in Southwest Harbor. He was born April 27, 1913, on Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick, the son of Edmund J. and Laura (Boynton) Leonard. John worked as a lobster fisherman, and built wooden lobster boats and rowboats. He enjoyed shuffle boarding, square dancing and woodworking. John is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Ferne (Rumill) Leonard; two sons, Howard E. Leonard of Bar Harbor, and John J. Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Warner Robbins, Ga.; one daughter, Janice Reed and husband, David, of Presque Isle; one sister, Alecha Joy and husband, John, of Orleans, Mass.; grandchildren, Karl, Shawn and Kevin Reed, Vicki Alley, Jeff Leonard, Jessica Casey and Lynn Tinkham; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by an infant daughter; a grandson, Mark E. Reed; two brothers, Howard M. and Harley H.; and two sisters, Thelma Schmidt and Celestia Mordaunt. Friends are invited to call 4-6 p.m. Friday, June 6, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor.
