HODGDON – John Joseph Jay, 87, passed away peacefully April 25, 2005, after a long courageous battle with diabetes, with his wife and son by his side. He was born July 25, 1917, at Houlton, the son of Sylvester and Margaret (Myrshal) Jay. John attended Houlton schools and served in the National Guard. He worked many years for the B & A Railroad and then for McKay Rock Products. John enjoyed his special relatives and friends and their many visits. He is survived by his loving wife, Lenora (Estabrook) Jay of Hodgdon, John and Lenora celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on March 2, 2005. He is also survived by his son, Ronald Jay Sr. of Hodgdon; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Harold Jay of Dover-Foxcroft, Ronald Jay and his wife, Frances, of Milo; one sister, Kathryn Thatchery of Biggs, Calif.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; daughters-in-law, Sandra Merritt and her husband, Jerry, of Linneus, Sandra Logue of Monticello. He was predeceased by one son, Joseph Leroy Jay Sr.; three grandchildren, David, Theresa and Tony Jay; one daughter-in-law, Janet Jay. At John’s request there will be no funeral. A private graveside will be held at the Hodgdon Cemetery. A service of Dunn Funeral Home.
