FORT FAIRFIELD – John R. Pelkey Sr., 82, died unexpectedly Thursday, June 5, 2008, at his residence. He was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Presque Isle, the son of John and Rose (Greenier) Pelkey. John was a lifelong resident of Fort Fairfield, where he attended local schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served during World War II from 1943 to 1946. John had been employed with Aroostook Van Lines, Fort Fairfield, for more than 25 years and was also employed by Jon Durepo Farms, Fort Fairfield, for many years during harvest. John enjoyed fishing, hunting and picking fiddleheads, he also enjoyed going to Bingo and getting coffee at Harvest Market with his friends called the Lair’s Club. In addition to his beloved wife, Sylvia (Gorneault) Pelkey of Fort Fairfield, John is survived by eight children, Gloria Bossie of Limestone, Roger Pelkey of Arizona, Joyce Linhares of Massachusetts, John Pelkey Jr. and his significant other, Storm Goodwin, of Limestone, Christina Trahan and her significant other, Graden Ouellette, of Caribou, Philip Pelkey of Presque Isle, Janet and her husband, Edward Sullivan, of Fort Fairfield and Lynn Pankhurst of Florida; one brother, Donald Pelkey of Orland; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great- great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by six brothers, Alex, Archie, Gilbert, Fred, Frank and Richard; and five sisters, Mary, Elizabeth, Ruth, Beatrice and Lillian. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, June 9, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Caribou. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the funeral service at VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
