MAPLETON – John Ralph Dow, 78, went to be with the Lord Aug. 1, 2004, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born July 28, 1926, in Presque Isle, the son of John H. and Agnes (Duncan) Dow. He was a member and deacon of the United Baptist Church in Mapleton. Mr. Dow worked for several local farmers in the area, including Benjamin Hughes, Carl Lovely and Roger McLaughlin. He loved hunting, fishing bicycling and cross-country skiing. He leaves behind his loving family including his wife of nearly 56 years, Margaret “Betty” (McLaughlin) Dow; daughter, Marjorie A. Dyer, both of Mapleton; grandson, Harley R. Dyer; great-grandchildren, Sonsarae and Dakota; grandson, Todd K. Dyer and his wife, Christina, all of North Augusta, S.C.; grandson, Andrew J. Dyer of Mapleton. He will be missed by his church family and friends. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at the Mapleton United Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Phelps officiating. Interment will be in South Side Cemetery, Mapleton.
