BRISTOL, Conn. – John S. “J” Gallant Sr., 73, husband of Ellen (McCluskey) Gallant, died on Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at the home of his daughter, Deborah, in Harwinton, Conn. Mr. Gallant was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Bangor, a son of the late Thomas F. Gallant Sr. and Jane B. (Griffen) Gallant. He was a longtime Bristol resident until moving to Milton, Fla., five years ago. He was an owner of South Side Meat Market for 42 years before retiring in 1994. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Uncas Council No. 32 Knights of Columbus in Unionville, and a 4th degree Knight of the Rev. M.B. Roddan Assembly of Bristol. He was also a member of the Bristol French Club, the St. Joseph Polish Society, the American Legion Seicheprey Post 2, and was a life member of the High Riders Snowmobile Club. He was also a member of St. Joseph Church, Bristol. Mr. Gallant is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Stephen J. and Debra Gallant, Daniel B. and Sue Gallant, all of Bristol, Conn., and John S. Gallant Jr. of Wolcott; three daughters, Ellen Marie Gallant and her partner, Dawn Tynan, of Plainville, Conn., Linda A. Reeves of Bristol, and Deborah L. J. and Rich Kissh, of Harwinton, Conn.; two brothers, Thomas F. Gallant Jr. of Bangor, and Edward P. Gallant of Milton, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Paul Albert, Marc, Michelle, Christopher, and Jessica Gallant, T. J. and Christa Reeves, Richie and Jenny Kissh; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Avenue, Bristol, Conn., A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church.
