EASTPORT, BUCKSPORT, and ENGLEWOOD, Fla. – Kenneth H. “Skip” Kinney, 68, died Oct. 18, 2004, at his home in Bucksport. He was born March 5, 1936, the son of Kenneth F. and Dorris (Rutherford) Kinney. He graduated from Shead Memorial High School in 1954, and went on to receive his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Maine, Orono, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi. After serving in the U.S. Army, he returned to UMO and received his master of arts degree and advanced degrees in education administration. Skip began his teaching career at East Millinocket High School, and then served as high school principal in Woodland. He was assistant superintendent in the Newport schools prior to serving as superintendent of Union 91 for Bucksport, Orland, Verona, and Prospect from 1969 until he retired in 1985. Skip enjoyed many winters at his retirement home in Englewood, Fla. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie (Wooster) Kinney; two sons, Kenneth “Rusty” Kinney and wife, Betty, of Atlanta, Ga., Scott Kinney and wife, Tammy, of Roanoke, Va.; three grandsons, Alexander and Maxwell Kinney of Virginia, and Jack Kinney of Georgia. A Celebration of Skip’s life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at the Franklin St. United Methodist Church, Bucksport, with Pastor Peter Remick and Pastor Buddy Franklin, a former classmate of Skip’s, officiating. A gathering of conversation and refreshment will follow in the church hall.
