DEXTER – John W. Chenevert, 67, died Dec. 16, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 21, 1937, at Melrose, Mass., a son of Clarence and Helen (Burdett) Chenevert. He graduated from Melrose, (Mass.) High School, Class of 1955. John moved to Dexter in 1970, and knew that he was here to stay. He worked in several fields but his favorite always involved driving: from stock cars (before he was old enough to have a license) to his repo ramp truck, delivery trucks to school buses, he loved being on the road and meeting new people. Despite what some of his school bus passengers might say, he had a soft spot for young people, ready to champion or chew out, whichever was needed. He was still a counselor, confidante, consoler and cheerleader for many up to the time of his death. John was Past Master of Penobscot Lodge No. 39 AF & AM, a past Rainbow dad, Past Patron and current Associate Patron of Wassokeag Chapter No. 44 OES. He had served on the SAD No. 46 School Board until ill health forced him to resign. Above all, John loved his family. In addition to his wife of 22 years, Rebecca (Prescott) of Dexter, he is survived by their combined family of nine children, Cyndi and husband, Lance Legler, and Joy Delvoy, all of Wisconsin, Deborah Dallalis of Bath, Robert and William Beach both of Daytona Beach, Fla., Daryl and wife, Rhonda Chenevert, of Sangerville, Donald Chenevert and his fianc?e, Stephanie McDermott of Clermont, Fla., Bonita Beach of Portsmouth, N.H., Diane and husband, Joseph Shoemaker, of Clemmons, N.C.; and a sister, Nancy Morrison of Mass.; and his favorite mother-in-law, Ruth Prescott of Dexter; 16 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He will be always loved and forever missed. “Don’t walk ahead of me, I may not follow; Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead. Walk beside me and be my friend.” Services will be held in the summer 2005. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 122 State Street, Augusta, ME 04330. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.
